Auburn's Malzahn to show off arm at Riverwalk

Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn will throw out a ceremonial first pitch Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium. The 47-year-old will take the mound before the annual Alabama-Auburn baseball game in Montgomery. Alabama has yet to declare its first-pitch representative.

2014 Triple-A All-Stars will go to Durham

The 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game will be hosted by the Durham Bulls. The 27th annual game will be July 16 and shown on MLB Network.

The Bulls hosted the Triple-A championship game last year.

Tide, Tigers going bald at Riverwalk game

The Alabama and Auburn baseball teams, including their coaches, will have a smooth look for a good cause at their March 5 game at Riverwalk.

The Tide and Tigers will shave their heads just before the first pitch to raise money for cancer research.

Fans can make donations at or at the game. Donations will benefit the Vs. Cancer Foundation, the Children's Hospital of Alabama, and research at UAB.

Biscuits reach franchise low with quarterly rent

The Biscuits had the weakest financial three months in team history, according to the quarterly rent paid to the city.

The Biscuits paid $7,186 in rent for the months covering October, November and December. The payment was due at the beginning of this month.

Their previous low was a $9,470 for the same months in 2010.

The Biscuits have paid more than $5 million in rent since the city-owned $26 million Riverwalk Stadium opened in 2004. (For those curious, the exact total is $5,044,171.52.)

The Biscuits will have their annual job fair Saturday at Riverwalk Stadium. It will run from 9 a.m.-noon, the team announced today.

De La Rosa yanked off Rays' 40-man

Relief pitcher Dane De La Rosa became the third Biscuit in two days stripped of his 40-man status with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays pulled off De La Rosa in order to add free agent designated hitter Luke Scott. De La Rosa has made 12 appearances the last two seasons for Tampa Bay.

Brignac, Johnson off Tampa Bay's 40-man list

Former Biscuits infielders Reid Brignac and Elliot Johnson have been dumped from Tampa Bay's 40-man roster after the Rays needed space to add reliever Kyle Farnsworth and second baseman/outfielder Kelly Johnson.

Brignac, 27, has a .227 average in parts of five seasons in the majors, including 1-for-16 in 16 games last year. Elliot Johnson, 28, has a .223 average oin parts of three years in the majors. He hit .242 in 123 games last year.

6 Biscuits, Myers on Rays' spring training list

Six players with Biscuits ties have been invited to Tampa Bay's major league spring training.

Infielders Leslie Anderson and Cole Figueroa, and pitchers Matt Nevarez, Jim Paduch, Jimmy Patterson and Neil Schenk are on the list that the Rays announced today.

Top prospect Wil Myers, an outfielder added in offseason trade with the Royals, will be there, too.

The Rays are scheduled to have 64 players in camp, their most since 2005 also had 64.
