Morlan, Strait released by Rays

Biscuits pitcher Eduardo Morlan and outfielder Cody Strait have been released by the Rays.

Morlan was part of the Delmon Young-for-Matt Garza/Jason Bartlett trade with the Twins. He was 1-1 with a 5.24 ERA in 12 appearances this year, his third with the Biscuits. He allowed 32 hits in 22 1/3 innings.

Strait was hitting .195 in 39 games this season. He came to the Rays last year from the Royals in a trade for cash considerations.

No word on corresponding moves.

  1. How about Leslie Anderson from Charlotte and Justin Garcia off the in-active.

  2. Or activate Luna and Garcia. Promote nobody.

Anderson has a .200 average through 14 games entering tonight. Sure, they'll push him since he's 28, but I wouldn't think they'd push him quite yet.

  3. I thought of that also, but figure they need another outfielder.

  4. ...or activate catcher Paxton? I hope the player who replaces Strait will be from the Rays farm, and not someone from who knows where.
