Guerrieri scratched from Hudson Valley start

Taylor Guerrieri, Tampa Bay's top pick in last year's draft, has been scratched from his scheduled start tonight for the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports.

Koronis' past includes MTV show

Alex Koronis, before he agreed to take part in the Biscuits' "win a date" competition and the cheesy promotional video, was already an experienced thespian. The Biscuits' video is drawing rave reviews from his teammates.

"Definitely A-plus," fellow reliever Scott Shuman said. "Probably some of the best natural acting ability I've seen. I know if baseball doesn't work out, he has acting."

Koronis, who was the first to reveal his MTV past and helped efforts to track down the clip, also was pleased with the Biscuits' video.

"It's not my best work, but it's up there," Koronis said. "I'm happy with the overall product."

And, now, put your hands together for the March 4, 2010, episode of MTV's "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" ...

Morning reading

Never did I think I would ever reference the movie "Magic Mike," but I did to describe Alex Koronis' wardrobe in his soon-to-be-infamous video. From the Biscuits' 8-6 win over Jacksonville, Ty Morrison admits to avoiding temptation. He considered trying to bunt for a cycle-finishing single.

Koronis the prize for 'win a date' night

The Biscuits haven't made an announcement yet, but apparently they're giving away a date with relief pitcher Alex Koronis on Thursday. Maybe they'll reveal the details.

Last year, starting pitcher Chris Archer was the prize and the night coincided with one of his starts. Infielder Henry Wrigley was the object of affection two years ago.

98 degrees far from a frying record

Break out the sweatshirts and mittens. It's officially 98 degrees for tonight's first pitch. Nope, that's not a Biscuits or a Riverwalk record.

Suns dodge heavy rain, Cantore on trip

The Jacksonville Suns had a weather-filled trip to Montgomery today.

Because of Tropical Storm Debby, the Suns needed more than seven hours to make the usual 5 1/2-hour drive and it required some side roads. When I-10 was closed, they ventured onto U.S. 90. At one point, they had to turn around in a prison before taking smaller roads to an open portion of I-10.

The Suns arrived at their Montgomery hotel at almost 4 p.m. and didn't get to Riverwalk until after 5 p.m.

"Looking back, we went through Live Oak and (The Weather Channel's) Jim Cantore is now in Live Oak," Suns manager Andy Barkett said. "Wherever that guy is, you don't want to be."

Ranking the Rays ... Paduch, O'Conner

Made an administrative decision. With the high esteem that I know everyone has for the sanctity of the BCS/RPI rankings, I think it skewers them to include the short-season guys.

It hurts the short-season guys because they can't catch up in the full-season race. It hurts those late-charging full-season guys because the field is suddenly enlarged.

So, we'll keep a top five for the full-season guys (as long as three teams play). For the short-season guys, we'll do our own version of Division I-AA and have a top three (as long as two teams play). If someone is promoted/demoted between the two groups, they lose their points.

Without objection, so ordered.
