Overstocked Bulls

The Biscuits may be making some roster moves soon -- at least after the Durham Bulls make at least three.

With Tampa Bay recently demoting pitchers Chad Orvella and Doug Waechter and outfielder Joey Gathright, Durham is three players above the International League roster limit.

The Devil Rays demoted the three to bring Rocco Baldelli, Jorge Cantu and Casey Fossum off the disabled list. Baldelli and Cantu were on minor-league rehab assignments, but those players do not count against a minor-league team's roster limit.

The Bulls could simply deactivate three players, but that's a lot of dead weight to carry in the clubhouse. The Biscuits are playing at Carolina and the Bulls open a homestand tonight. Carolina and Durham are an easy drive apart (in fact, coaches and players usually visit with each other, if the schedule works like this), so it would be easy to switch players around.

Make that one over the roster limit.

Relief pitcher J.B. Miadich was released and catcher Josh Johnson deactivated.

And the Bulls are done: Outfielder Ryan Knox was deactivated.
