Bankston promoted

Wes Bankston was promoted to Class AAA Durham after tonight's game and will play first base with the Bulls. That experiment is over at third base after B.J. Upton moved there from shortstop.

The Biscuits' front office is expected to officially announce Bankston's promotion at some point Thursday.

So who is Wes replacement, Evan Longoria?

The new pitcher, Mitch Talbot, is the roster replacement.

That means a lot more playing time at third for Gabriel Martinez and Johnny Raburn.

Longoria is doing well at Visalia after 11 games, but he's also only 20 games into his career -- 19 games entering Thursday, to be precise, for anybody who likes such precision.

The Rays have had a lot less minor-league moves this year, so I don't think they'll rush Longoria to Montgomery this season.

By the way, since Bankston is headed to Durham to play first base, does that mean there's something afoot with Kevin Witt?

Witt was a star in Wednesday's Triple-A All-Star Game. He's also hit .287 with 23 home runs and 63 RBIs.

Also, with B.J. Upton going to third, third baseman Sean Burroughs may be on the move, too. Burroughs is hitting .221 since being demoted from the big leagues.
