Beckham (Gordon Beckham) in lineup for Biscuits-Barons

Chicago White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham is suiting up for the Birmingham Barons tonight.

Beckham, a former University of Georgia All-American and a first-round draft pick, is making a rehab start with the Barons. He'll be the designated hitter tonight against the Biscuits.

Beckham is on Chicago's disabled list with a strained left oblique suffered in spring training. He's entering his sixth major league season.

Thursday's lineups: Barons at Biscuits

Six players making their Double-A debut are in Montgomery's lineup tonight when the Biscuits open the season against the dastardly Birmingham Barons.

Only first baseman Cameron Seitzer was on the Opening Day roster last year, while second baseman Ryan Brett and catcher Curt Casali joined the Biscuits late last season.

Everyone else is seeing Double-A for the first time.

Late-morning reading list

Curt Casali and Grayson Garvin have been reunited with the Biscuits. The two were Vanderbilt stars when they were drafted in 2011 and have remained close friends. (You can probably guess which is known as "Mr. Clean" and which is "The Hoff.")

FYI, Casali and Garvin are both Vanderbilt graduates. Casali said he's only used his communications degree when "talking to you guys (the media)." Garvin's degree is in business psychology, which has helped in an offseason job with some financial advisors in Nashville. "I really haven't had to use it yet," Garvin said. "Thankfully."
