O'Malley on shelf with abdominal strain

Biscuits infielder Shawn O'Malley is out of the lineup for a second straight game and isn't available tonight due to an abdominal strain.

O'Malley has been playing through pain for a month, manager Billy Gardner said, and had an MRI today. The results were good, though O'Malley is supposed to see another doctor Thursday to rule out a sports hernia.

"I'm probably just being a big baby," O'Malley joked. "Any time I have to run, which is a big part of my game, is when it starts to hurt. I'll be all right."

O'Malley said he started hurting when the Biscuits played at Huntsville in mid-May. He's hitting .196 in the month of June.

O'Malley went through some running this afternoon and "didn't feel good," Gardner said.

"We'll have to wait and see where we go with this," Gardner said. "But he's been playing through this for a while and should be commended for that."
