The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have announced that Josh Hamilton, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 draft who has missed the last few seasons because of drug suspensions, will start working out with the team's extended spring training program Friday.
Hamilton has been on Major League Baseball's suspended list since Feb. 18, 2004. He hasn't played an organized game since July 10, 2002.
The outfielder was considered one of the top prospects in the minor leagues until his suspensions.
