Nestor Perez, a shortstop for the Biscuits in 2004, will be part of Spain's efforts in the International Baseball Foundation's World Cup.
The Spaniards are hosting their first-round "pod" in Barcelona and face South Africa at 7 p.m. Wednesday (noon Central). They battle the Puerto Ricans next Friday at 6 p.m. (11 a.m.) and take on the mighty Cubans at 11 a.m. Sept. 12 (4 a.m.).
There are 22 teams in the tournament and 16 advance to the second round.
