Nick Barnese and Joe Cruz, who each won nine games from 2011-12 for the Biscuits, were released today by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Barnese, 24, missed the first half of last year with a shoulder injury and finished 3-1 with a 5.72 ERA for the Biscuits. He was 6-8 with a 3.76 ERA in 2011.
Cruz, 24, was 6-6 with a 4.60 ERA last season after an injury-shortened 2011. Two years ago, he had an 8.43 ERA in 11 starts before a shoulder injury.
Both were drafted in 2007. Barnese went in the third round and Cruz the 30th.
