Victor Mateo and C.J. Riefenhauser combined on a three-hitter in the Biscuits' 1-0 win over the Birmingham Barons on Thursday.
Mateo (2-4) gave up all three hits over seven innings with one walk, a hit batsman and seven strikeouts. Riefenhauser allowed just a walk in his two innings and recorded five groundball outs.
The Barons had just two runners reach scoring position against Mateo. Against Riefenhauser in the ninth, Birmingham had a runner on second with one out, but Andy Wilkins struck out and Michael Earley grounded out.
Montgomery scored in the second inning. Kyeong Kang knocked in Cameron Seitzer with a one-out double. Seitzer led off with an infield single.
