Cantu, Cumberland to Reds

The Devil Rays have traded Jorge Cantu and Shaun Cumberland to the Cincinnati Reds.

The Rays add pitchers Brian Shackelford and Calvin Medlock from the Reds. Both were at Class AAA Louisville and will simply change clubhouses today. The Louisville Bats start a home series with the Durham Bulls tonight.

Cantu was with Class AAA Durham, while Cumberland was with the Biscuits. Cumberland had a .246 average with Montgomery. Cantu was critical of Tampa Bay's decision to send him to Durham to start the year and was again critical after a midseason demotion back to the Bulls.

Cumberland will join Class AA Chattanooga and won't take long to visit Montgomery again. The Biscuits' next home series, which starts Aug. 8, is against the Lookouts.

Shackelford was 0-5 with a 4.96 ERA in 41 relief appearances for Louisville, while Medlock was 2-1 with a 5.63 ERA in 13 games. Medlock started the year at Class AA Chattanooga.
