Monday's door opener

Mobile pitcher Matt Elliott is back at Riverwalk Stadium for the first time since his now-infamous door slam as the BayBears and Biscuits open a five-game series tonight.

The Devil Rays just recalled former Biscuits pitchers Jason Hammel and Juan Salas to the major leagues, sending J.P. Howell to Class AAA Durham and putting Jay Witasick on the disabled list. Hammel was sent down just Saturday but is back because Witasick got hurt.

Flags will be flown at half-mast tonight and there will be a moment of silence before today's game in honor of Tulsa Drillers coach Mike Coolbaugh, who was killed by a line drive while coaching first base Sunday.

Tampa Bay's B.J. Upton, a former Biscuit, was named the American League's co-player of the week along with Robinson Cano of the Yankees today, too.

Is Butler going to make the players leave the door open durning the game? Hopefully we will slam the door on the Bears pitchers tonight.

New door on the bathroom, though the old one stands just outside in the tunnel.

Elliott said he'd talk to me after the game about his notoriety. It landed him in Sports Illustrated (with picture), the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, to mention a few.
