Wellman: Mason, Thayer to miss series (please)

Mississippi manager Phillip Wellman walked up to two Montgomery pitchers after Monday's Southern League All-Star Game.

He had bad news for Chris Mason and Dale Thayer in relation to the series that starts between the Biscuits and Braves on Wednesday. He started with Thayer.

"I'm going to call Billy (Gardner, Biscuits manager) and tell him that you threw 35 pitches and need four days of rest," Wellman said. "I don't want to see you at all."

Mason and I started laughing, so Wellman focused on Mason.

"You, too, Mason. I'm tired of you," Wellman said.

First, for those without a sense of humor, he was joking.

Second, it would be a good strategy for Wellman. Mason is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts against Mississippi, including a three-hit shutout in his last start, while Thayer is 1-0 with two saves and a 1.13 ERA in six appearances.

Do you know what the pitching rotation will be for the Mississippi series yet?

No, but I've heard they're adjusting it. That's the story I have planned for Wednesday.
