Wade Davis said he understood the decision to send him to the bullpen, Jeff Niemann said he has to pitch well to remain a starter, and both said it won't affect their relationship. They'll remain friends and still help each other.
"We're not going to change," Niemann said. "It's not going to change one bit how we go about our business."
Davis said he still will follow the plan he stated Sunday where "if it's me, I'll go down there and kick (butt), too."
"We've been preparing for it," Davis said. "Me and Niemann both prepared for whatever might happen. I'll just roll with it."
Of course, the Rays could reverse course, if Niemann struggles or Davis dominates.
"You have to control what you can control," Niemann said. "You have to go out there and throw quality games."
