Taylor Guerrieri has a different look this spring.
First, he'll be marooned in Tampa Bay's rehab program until at least late July -- "but that's without any setbacks" -- after Tommy John surgery last year.
"It's a process," Guerrieri said, "and it's a long process."
Guerrieri, the Rays' No. 1 draft pick in 2011, stayed in Port Charlotte all winter for rehab. He said he's throwing every other day. He makes 50-60 throws each time out and is up to 15 throws from 120 feet.
"I had to take a step back," said Guerrieri, who was at low-Class A Bowling Green when he went down. "And this is a great time to work on my mechanics."
Second, if that matters, after sporting hair that leaned out of the back of his cap a year ago, he's sporting a closely cropped look. He did it as part of the Rays' annual haircut cancer benefit.
Guerrieri has to serve a suspension for a positive drug test. He'll serve that while rehabbing from the surgery.
