Salem hits snag on knee rehab

Outfielder Emeel Salem, who hasn't played this year due to an offseason knee injury, has had his return delayed. Salem is in Birmingham this week so that Dr. James Andrews, the noted orthopedist, can examine the knee.

"The knee has been swelling unpredictably," Salem said. "Because of that, I decided I wanted them to check it out one more time."

Salem, a midseason Southern League All-Star last year and former University of Alabama star, is scheduled to return to Tampa Bay's rehab program Friday. He said the training staff in Port Charlotte "has been great" and they're all "doing all we can do."

"It's on my body's timetable," Salem said. "It's very frustrating."
