Former Rays scout Skip Bundy will be posthumously honored next week by the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association.
The ABCA is having its annual convention in Birmingham and will give Bundy its distinguished service award. Bundy died in May 2006 of congestive heart failure. He was 61.
Bundy scouted the state for 22 years for the Rays, Kansas City Royals, New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners. He was a high school principal and boys basketball coach at Leeds High School, where he coached NBA legend Charles Barkley. Bundy, as a part-time scout for the Royals, helped the team sign Bo Jackson, who became a star in baseball and the NFL.
The ABCA convention runs Jan. 17-19 at the Birmingham Marriott.
The group will also add four to its Hall of Fame, including former Stanhope Elmore coach Hank Furlow.
