The Rays have sent out a release saying they'll have "a major announcement regarding a player signing" on Wednesday. The press conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern.Both the Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Times have recent blog entries saying the Rays are close to a long-term deal with former Biscuits pitcher Jamie Shields.
