Archer finds mark for Southern League honor

Biscuits right-hander Chris Archer will take the mound tonight as the Southern League pitcher of the week.

Archer won due to his seven shutout innings Wednesday in a victory at Birmingham. He gave up one hit, walked five and struck out four. Archer is 8-6 with a 4.21 ERA this year, though he's unbeaten in his last five starts.

Archer is a two-time winner of the Southern League's weekly pitching award. He also won in July 2010 when he was with the Tennessee Smokies.

Chattanooga right fielder Alex Castellanos, who joined the Lookouts just this month, was the top hitter. He's hitting .400 in his current 11-game hit streak and was 13-for-30 with 11 RBIs for the week ending Sunday.
