Catcher John Jaso has been promoted to the Rays from Triple-A Durham. Also, the Biscuits have put shortstop Brandon Chaves on the disabled list with an elbow injury.
The Rays had an open roster spot because pitcher Grant Balfour had a death in the family in Australia. He's expected back Friday.
They called up a catcher because Dioner Navarro was shaken up Saturday by a foul ball to the mask.
The Rays also now have a fifth All-Star. First baseman Carlos Pena, after finishing last in online voting for the final AL roster spot, is going after Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia couldn't attend.
