The Biscuits released pitcher Chris Mason after tonight's game and relief pitcher Matt Gorgen is being promoted from high-Class A Charlotte.
Mason was 3-5 with a 6.24 ERA in 53 1/3 innings for Montgomery this season. He was the Double-A Pitcher of the Year for the Biscuits in 2007 before going 3-10 with a 6.21 ERA at Triple-A Durham last season. He finished 15-4 with a 2.57 ERA two years ago. Mason was a second-round draft pick in 2005.
Gorgen, a 16th-round draft pick last year from the University of California, was 4-0 with an 0.57 ERA and 15-of-16 on saves for the Stone Crabs. In 47 2/3 innings, his totals included 24 hits allowed, 16 walks and 59 strikeouts. He pitched two shutout innings Thursday.
