Princeton's Snell snappy in Appy League

Princeton's Blake Snell won the season's first Appalachian League pitcher of the week award.

The left-hander, in his first two starts, has thrown 8 2/3 shutout innings. He's allowed just one hit with three walks and 13 strikeouts.

Mobile outfielder Alfredo Marte and Jacksonville left-hander Jose Alvarez were the Southern League honorees.

Marte was 5-for-9 with four runs scored and four RBIs in Mobile's first four games coming out of the All-Star break. He's hitting .294 with 14 home runs and 49 RBIs.

Alvarez threw eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits, Friday against Tennessee. He's 2-4 with a 4.15 ERA.
