Stephen McCray gave up one run on three hits over 6 1/3 innings and Miguel Gonzalez hit a sixth-inning grand slam to lead the Birmingham Barons to a 5-2 win over the Biscuits on Monday.
McCray (4-1) surrendered a home run to Montgomery designated hitter Kyeong Kang in the second inning. After a third-inning single by Mikie Mahtook, McCray retired 12 straight Biscuits.
Down 4-1, the Biscuits loaded the bases with one out in the sixth to chase McCray. Ryan Kussmaul struck out Kevin Kiermaier and got Robby Price to fly out to end the threat.
Kang reached on a three-base error in the ninth and scored on a Riccio Torrez groundout.
Montgomery finished with just three hits, tying a season low.
Biscuits starter Victor Mateo took a shutout into the sixth. Dan Black's leadoff double, followed by a single and hit batsman, loaded the bases for Gonzalez. He hit Mateo's 0-1 pitch over the left-field wall.
