Mark "The Bird" Fidrych, a former Montgomery Rebel who became nationally known for his on-mound antics with the Detroit Tigers, was found dead today.
He was found dead at his farm in Northborough, Mass., after an apparent accident. The former All-Star pitcher was 54.
A family friend found Fidrych this afternoon beneath a pickup truck that he appeared to be working on, the Worcester County (Mass.) district attorney told the Associated Press.
Fidrych was 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA in seven games with the Montgomery Rebels in 1975, a year before winning the AL Rookie of the Year award.
