Clemson third baseman Richie Shaffer went to the Tampa Bay Rays with the 25th overall pick.
Shaffer hit .336 this season with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs. The 23-year-old has 30 career homers for the Tigers.
"He’s one of the better hitters I’ve seen in college baseball in a long time," South Carolina coach Ray Tanner said in the Charleston Post and Courier.
