Barnese throws three innings in extended

Pitcher Nick Barnese threw three innings in an extended spring training game Saturday, farm director Mitch Lukevics said, though it's not certain when Barnese might leave and join one of Tampa Bay's affiliates.

"We like to get our guys up to five innings, if possible, before they go out," Lukevics said. "Right now, he's still in spring training mode."

Barnese, who ranks seventh on Baseball America's Tampa Bay prospect list, didn't break spring camp because of a shoulder issue.
