The Biscuits have yet to finalize how they'll stack up their starting rotation with Jeremy Hellickson shelved due to his shoulder.
Sunday's off day leaves Montgomery with some flexibility. Brandon Mann appears certain to move into the rotation. He was supposed to be in the rotation at the start of the year and pitched well after Hellickson left Tuesday. But where will Mann go?
The rest of the starters could move up a game because, with the off day Sunday, that will leave them on their usual schedule of four days' rest, and Mann goes fifth. Or Mann goes in the series opener.
"It's a work in progress as we speak," manager Billy Gardner said.
If the rotation moves up a game, that could be a sign that Hellickson's injury is more severe than the Biscuits have previously said. Montgomery plays 30 straight days (six straight five-game series) after Sunday's off day. Moving everyone up would make it hard for Hellickson to return and be the No. 1 starter.
