Clay Zavada, the "lunch-pail prospect" of the BayBears that I wrote about last month, has been promoted to the major leagues. He'll be in the bullpen tonight for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The left-handed pitcher left baseball two years ago and juggled a job and college classes. He'd go to class at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville from Monday through Wednesday, drive 200 miles home to Streator, Ill., and deliver furniture Thursday through Saturday, give pitching lessons on Sunday and drive back to Edwardsville.
