Dave Sappelt, the Southern League’s leading hitter, was 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Carolina Mudcats in a 5-1 victory over the Biscuits on Sunday.
Sappelt hit an RBI single in the third to make it 3-0 and a two-run single in the seventh to cap the scoring. He entered Sunday with a .349 average.
Felix Perez also had three hits and scored twice for Carolina, which clinched a series win at Riverwalk. The series ends Monday night.
The Biscuits scored in the sixth when Leslie Anderson singled home Shawn O’Malley. Carolina starter Scott Carroll (3-5) gave up four hits in six innings.
