Rays snare Brandon Allen

The Rays have claimed first baseman Brandon Allen off waivers from the Oakland A's, reports mlbtraderumors.com.

2:31: The Rays have announced the waiver claim. To make room on the 40-man roster, catcher Robinson Chirinos has been moved to the 60-day disabled list. Chirinos is out due to concussions. Allen will join the Rays. Corresponding 25-man move TBA.

another in a string of bizarre moves this spring from the rays - where the heck is Allen gonna play with Pena at first and the rays already have a lefty DH in Luke Scott?

I put this in the same class with signing Molina to a multi million dollar deal

Good question for this year. With Pena (I believe) on a one-year contract, the Rays may hope they're covered for next year.
