Trey McNutt threw 5 2/3 shutout innings and the Tennessee Smokies benefited from nine walks in a 3-2 win over the Biscuits on Wednesday.
McNutt, a Haleyville native who used to play in the Montgomery Metro League, gave up three hits. He walked four and struck out three.
The Smokies used two singles and two walks, the last to Luis Flores with the bases loaded, to take a 1-0 lead in the second. In the third, Justin Bour knocked home Jim Adduci with a two-out double, giving Tennessee a 2-0 lead. In the seventh, a hit batsman and three walks brought in Logan Watkins and left the Smokies ahead 3-0.
The Biscuits scored in the seventh when Omar Luna singled in Brett Nommensen. That left the bases loaded with one out before Ryan Garko and Kyeong Kang each took a called third strike.
Montgomery had the bases loaded with one out in the ninth and pulled with one on a groundout. A flyout ended it.
