Longoria, Perez leave game early

Don't get your feathers up. Evan Longoria and Fernando Perez were taken out early from tonight's drubbing to not chance an injury in such a blowout loss, manager Billy Gardner said.

The initial hope was Shawn Riggans might be the person to make that happen. However, Riggans' sore right elbow put him on the DL shortly after being recalled to replace Paul, and it now appears he won't be back this season.

Riggans has been unable to play back-to-back games without discomfort in the minors and will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his elbow. It's considered a minor procedure, but the normal recovery time for a catcher is two months, taking Riggans out of the mix for the rest of the 2007 campaign.

Riggans is a wimp, plain and simple.

Just joking. Hate that's happened to one of the friendliest people to don a Biscuits uniform.

He's had injury trouble his whole career.
