Game 1 vs. Braves

PEARL, Miss. -- The South Division playoff series starts tonight at gorgeous Trustmark Park and Biscuits right-hander Wade Davis (7-3, 3.15 ERA) faces Braves right-hander Ryan Baerlocher (2-1, 3.57).

Rhyne Hughes made the trip, his first visit as a pro to his home state, but won't play because of his facial injuries.

Outfielder Sergio Pedroza, one of the three postseason arrivals from Vero Beach, was put on the playoff roster. Catcher Christian Lopez and pitcher Jino Gonzalez will be around in case of emergency.

Stacy,
Any idea what is up with Barratt? If his is healthy and able to go, why dump him?

"Barratt deactivated: The Biscuits deactivated left-handed pitcher Jon Barratt to create roster space for Pedroza.

Barratt won Sunday's game at Jacksonville with a perfect inning of relief but missed the previous three weeks with a sore shoulder.

Gardner said Barratt is healthy and could be activated in case of another pitcher's injury."

They made the move because they were short on position players. Usually, it's a 12-12 split, but it was 13-11 before the move.

With only 11 position players, that meant only one hitter available off the bench. That puts you at a strategic disadvantage, particularly if one of the two catchers is the DH.
