Biscuits sweep Rays' April honors

Center fielder Desmond Jennings (right) and pitcher Jeremy Hellickson, both with the Biscuits, won Tampa Bay's minor-league player and pitcher of the month awards for April.

The two learned of the honor after Montgomery's 14-9 loss to Birmingham.

Jennings hit .349 with 17 runs scored and 16 RBIs in 21 April games. Hellickson was 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in five starts. His totals included eight walks, 33 strikeouts and 18 hits allowed in 28 innings.

I guess Hellickson has the prospect status advantage over Darin Downs, who was terrific with Charlotte.

Any idea when Nick Barnese is due to report to Bowling Green, Stacy?

Correct. They do weigh "prospect status" into those.

I haven't heard anything on Barnese. I'll ask Saturday, if any of the Rays' rovers are still in town.
