Jim Paduch, a right-handed pitcher with the independent Chico Outlaws, is coming to the Biscuits, according to the Outlaws.
Paduch was a 12th-round draft pick of the Reds in 2003 and was in the Cincinnati organization through 2006. He made one appearance at Triple-A Louisville in 2006 but otherwise topped out at high-Class A Sarasota, where he was 10-14 from 2005-06.
The 28-year-old, a Chicago native, has been in independent ball from 2007-now, including the last 2 1/2 years with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association. Last year, he led Lincoln with nine wins and 118 strikeouts. He finished 9-6 with a 4.65 ERA and 63 walks in 120 innings.
Paduch had made one start this year for Chico, allowing four hits and two runs in seven innings.
