Marbury native Brandon Dickson is headed to the major leagues.
The St. Louis Cardinals promoted the right-handed pitcher from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday after releasing former All-Star Ryan Franklin.
Dickson had a 3.86 ERA for Memphis this season, his sixth in the St. Louis organization. The 26-year-old right-hander was a Triple-A All-Star last year and signed with the Cardinals in 2006 as a non-drafted free agent.
Franklin was a National League All-Star in 2009 but struggled mightily this year. He was 1-4 with an 8.46 ERA in 21 games, including a two-run, one-out appearance Tuesday at Baltimore. Franklin, 36, allowed nine home runs in just 27 2/3 innings.
