Biscuits fall short of league error mark

There was some final-play suspense, but the Biscuits have reached the middle of the ninth with just eight errors, one shy of the Southern League record. Unless they rally from an 11-3 deficit, they'll avoid it.

On the final out of the top of the ninth, Mississippi's Matt Kennelly hit a squibber to Montgomery first baseman Matt Sweeney. Sweeney bobbled the ball, but recovered in time to toss it to pitcher David Wendt (yep, that's catcher David Wendt, making his Double-A debut). The toss wasn't pristine, but Wendt kept his toe on the bag.

The eight errors are the most in the Southern League since Birmingham had eight in 2007. They're also the most this season in the major or minor leagues.

7 errors: Chattanooga on April 22, 7-3 loss vs. Huntsville
7: Clinton on Friday, 8-7 loss at Lake County
7: Lansing on May 12, 4-2 loss at Great Lakes
