Biscuits pitching coach shot in apparent mugging

Biscuits pitching coach Bill Moloney was shot late Monday, the victim of an apparent mugging at his east Montgomery apartment complex.

Moloney was being treated and in good condition early this morning at Jackson Hospital, Biscuits manager Billy Gardner said.

Moloney was shot in a thigh around 11:30 p.m. after Montgomery's game with the Mississippi Braves. He also suffered facial injuries, Gardner said.

Gardner, hitting coach Ozzie Timmons, strength and conditioning coach Jared Elliott and trainer Andrew Hauser were at the hospital with Moloney.

Moloney, 56, is in his second season with the Biscuits, his fifth in the Tampa Bay organization and 32nd in professional baseball. He and many of Montgomery's coaches live in an apartment complex on Taylor Road near AUM.
