D.J. Jones retires, leaves minor-league camp

Outfielder D.J. Jones retired from the Tampa Bay organization Thursday. Jones, a Gulf Shores native, hit .221 in two seasons, both with short-season teams.

The 22-year-old was expected to play for low-Class A Bowling Green this year. He was an 11th-round draft pick in 2007. The Rays wooed him away from his Auburn commitment and signed him at the August deadline. He didn't debut until 2008.

The latest minor-league roster has three names missing from the previous version, which was dated March 27. It hasn't been updated with Jones yet.
