David Newmann’s 7 2/3 shutout innings helped push the Montgomery Biscuits to a 4-0 win over the Mississippi Braves on Tuesday. Newmann faced just three over the minimum and picked up his first Double-A victory.
He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven. A double play and two outfield assists assisted Newmann, who has pitched 14 2/3 shutout innings at Riverwalk Stadium this year.
Newmann and Matt Gorgen combined on a five-hitter. It was Montgomery’s fourth shutout of the year.
Greg Sexton hit a two-run double in the fifth inning for the Biscuits. John Matulia added an RBI triple in the seventh and Cody Cipriano an RBI single in the eighth.
