Shields, Price going to All-Star Game

James Shields, who threw the first pitch in Biscuits history, has been picked for his first major league All-Star Game.

Shields was named to the American League roster today for the July 12 All-Star Game in Phoenix.

Shields and David Price give the Biscuits two players on the American League roster, which was named today.

Both are with the Tampa Bay Rays, who also had outfielder Matt Joyce picked. Rays utility man Ben Zobrist is one of five finalists for the final roster spot, which is decided by online fan voting.

Shields is 8-5 with a 2.45 ERA and an AL-high six complete games for the Rays. His ERA ranks fifth. He played for Montgomery in 2004-05. Price is 8-6 with a 3.43 ERA and will make his second straight All-Star appearance. He was a Biscuit in 2008.

Also, former Alabama catcher Alex Avila, now with the Detroit Tigers, will be an American League All-Star starter.
