Torres in line for major league debut

Left-hander Alex Torres can make his major league debut this week after the Rays promoted him to the majors today.

Torres would be the 50th former Biscuit to play in the majors and will be in Tampa Bay's bullpen. He, catcher Robinson Chirinos and pitcher Alex Cobb were called up. Cobb made his debut earlier this year and starts tonight against the Yankees. Chirinos is also in line for his debut.

The Rays created space by DL'ing right-handed reliever Juan Cruz (right groin strain) and catcher Jose Lobaton (left knee sprain) and designating right-handed reliever Adam Russell for assignment.

FYI, all of Montgomery's pitchers are present or accounted for. They're all in the outfield doing pregame drills, except for Nick Barnese. As tonight's starter, Barnese isn't scheduled to arrive for another few hours.
