Monday's method to madness

Biscuits pitcher James Houser isn't going to the Arizona Fall League after Major League Baseball reversed itself and ruled Houser wasn't eligible. Houser, serving a 50-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, had been cleared for the AFL when his suspension was announced.

Jon Barratt, who isn't going to the AFL because of a sore shoulder, threw a 25-pitch simulated game today and the Biscuits expect to activate him for the Jacksonville series.

Third baseman Patrick Cottrell arrived safely from Vero Beach ... and was going through the usual instruction on how to play cribbage before the game. Also, pitcher Tim Corcoran has been cleared to pitch after a week's break with a tender elbow.

Since it's pouring rain, we won't be starting for a little while, either.
