Biscuits starter Darin Downs was struck on the head with a line drive in the fifth inning tonight of Birmingham's 3-0 win in Hoover. Christian Marrero hit a liner off Downs that deflected into the Barons' dugout for a ground-rule double.
Downs, who never lost consciousness, was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent's Hospital in downtown Birmingham, team spokesman Jon Laaser said. It's unknown if Downs will spend the night at St. Vincent's.
