The Rays also reeled in left-handed reliever R.J. Swindle off waivers from Milwaukee and DFA'd Swindle.
The 40-year-old Springer had a 4.10 ERA in 48 appearances this season with 47 strikeouts and 14 walks. He has a 1.61 ERA in his last 25 games. Springer is a 17-year major-league veteran and the Rays will be his eighth team.
Dillon, 34, was 9-for-30 with two RBIs since moving up from Durham on May 26. Swindle, 26, was optioned to Triple-A Durham after being claimed and then designated for assignment. He made six appearances with the Brewers this year and had a 1.03 ERA in 43.2 innings at Triple-A Nashville.
