Former Biscuits catcher Robinson Cancel has been designated for assignment by the New York Mets. Cancel shouldn't have any trouble passing through waivers and he did add some service time over the past week. The Mets needed a 40-man spot for some no-name slugger, Gary Sheffield.
Also, the Mississippi Braves have sentenced the Phillip Wellman bobbleheads to another four weeks of serfdom in the bowels of Trustmark Park. After Saturday's originally scheduled giveaway was rained out, the Braves have rescheduled their freedom for Aug. 28.
