City coffers stuffed with Biscuit dough

The Biscuits, smelling good with a four-game win streak, face the BayBears again tonight with Cody Cipriano hitting second for the first time.

The Biscuits dropped some hefty coin into the city's lap this week when they paid $110,643.55 for the quarterly rent payment that covers April, May and June. That pushes the 2009 fiscal year total to $270,276.21.

If you remember, the city and team renegotiated the terms of the lease before the season. The team took over control of the scoreboard maintenance (and eventual cost of replacement) in exchange for lower percentages. Under the old numbers, this quarter's payment would have been $234,023.79.

If I may suggest a postgame entertainment option, the Rays and Mariners play at 9 tonight and here's one wish that Dreamland is showing it. Jeff Niemann is starting for Tampa Bay.
