Maybe it goes without saying, but I'll post it now: Pitcher Darin Downs isn't expected to return this season after being hit in the head with a line drive Monday.
Downs, in intensive care at St. Vincent's Hospital in downtown Birmingham, only had three more scheduled starts this year and will need time to recover. The Rays are sending minor-league training coordinator Mark Vinson, formerly Montgomery's trainer, to Birmingham to aid Biscuits trainer Lee Slagle with Downs and the team.
Downs' mom, Patricia, is also headed up, though dad Rich is staying behind with a younger sibling. That's a good sign.

Thank you for keeping us up to date on Darin's condition Stacy. I know it's a sensitive thing, but you're handling it well. Don't know what else to say, but prayers to Darin and his family, teammates, and friends.
