Pitcher Alex Cobb, Montgomery's Rays-named most valuable player this year, is OK with missing Tampa Bay's recognition ceremony tonight in St. Pete. Instead, he's in Durham with the Bulls and playing for an International League championship.
"I'd rather be here," Cobb said. "This is a chance to get a ring."
Cobb finished 7-5 with the Biscuits this season before a postseason promotion to Durham. His 2.71 ERA ranked fourth in the Southern League and his 128 strikeouts were third. Those numbers led to his Tampa Bay award.
"It's an honor, especially because there was a really good pitching staff down there," Cobb said. "When they told me, I was happy to hear it."
